From Lawyer to Partner – Will Jones on Trust, Clients, and the Train That Doesn’t Stop Twice

Will Jones didn’t come to Ewing Morris through a job posting. He came through a fishing trip, a long-standing relationship, and a moment he describes simply: he realized the train wasn’t going to stop at the station twice.

Will spent the early part of his career as a lawyer, with John Ewing and Darcy Morris among his first and most valued clients. When they set out to build Ewing Morris, they asked him to come with them, not as counsel, but as a partner. The transition taught him something he’s carried ever since: that the shift from advisor to trusted partner does not happen in a meeting or on a call. You only know you’ve made it when a client reaches out about something that has nothing to do with their portfolio.

Today, Will’s role is to understand what clients and their families are genuinely looking for- in their investments, in their businesses, and in their legacy- and to make sure Ewing Morris delivers on all of it. He thinks of it as quarterbacking. The work that excites him most isn’t the transaction. It’s being part of something that lasts.

“Trust doesn’t announce itself. You just look back one day and realize it’s there.”
